‘Scheduled To Happen Today’ – Coventry City Make Transfer Breakthrough | OneFootball

Coventry City ‘have agreed a deal’ to land Gus Hamer from Sheffield United, with a fee thrashed out between the two clubs and a medical ‘scheduled to happen today’, according to journalist Mark McAdam.

Frank Lampard is keen to continue to make quality additions to give Coventry a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League this season.

Hamer remains a popular figure at the Sky Blues, where he was on the books between 2020 and 2023, having been snapped up from Dutch club Zwolle.

Sheffield United signed Hamer from Coventry in the 2023 summer transfer window, forking out around £15m to take him to Bramall Lane.

Now 29 years old, Hamer is set to return to Coventry, with a fee having been agreed between the two teams.

Coventry will pay Sheffield United around £6m for Hamer, with add-ons also included in the agreement, though it remains to be seen how easy or hard to achieve those are.

Now a medical is ‘scheduled to happen today’ as Coventry work quickly to get the deal pushed over the line.

There was interest in Hamer earlier this summer from Mohamed Salah’s new club side, Trabzonspor, who also chased him during the winter transfer window.

Hamer was pursued by Leeds United in the summer 2024 transfer window, with one former EFL star suggesting the Whites wanted him badly.

He did not let the failure of a move to Elland Road happening affect him and was quickly picked out as one of the best players in the Championship.

Hamer had a spell in the Premier League with the Blades in the 2023/24 campaign, meaning top flight football is not new to him.

He is set to experience it again with Coventry and ironically it will see him come up against Leeds again following their failure to sign him.

Lampard has so far added Frank Onyeka, Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda, Carl Rushworth and Caleb Yirenkyi to the ranks at Coventry as he looks to build a squad to survive the demands of Premier League football.
