Finn Azaz curled into the top corner to put the Saints ahead after 79 minutes, but Jeremy Doku swiftly equalised with his deflected shot finding the bottom corner.

With three minutes left of normal time at Wembley, Nico found space outside the box and drilled a stunner into the top corner from 25 yards, making us the first team in history to reach four FA Cup finals in succession.

“I don’t remember to be honest, maybe last season, but it wasn’t that good to be fair,” said Nico in an interview after the game when quizzed if he’d ever scored a better goal.

“It’s amazing to score at the end. It’s been a long time without playing. And being here, in this amazing stadium, with this atmosphere, it’s an amazing feeling.

“I think I had a few chances to shoot because they were defending so deep. We were playing really good in the second half and making them be in their own area. I was waiting for the chance and I had it, so I gave it everything, I shot with everything and it went in.

“It’s a dream to win trophies. I’ve had the chance to win three trophies in my life. But this one would be amazing to win here again like against Arsenal [in the Carabao Cup]. I really hope we get the chance to win.”

The midfielder also reflected on a vital past week for the team, picking up three crucial victories, beating Arsenal and Burnley in the Premier League before overcoming the Saints to progress into the FA Cup final.

“It’s been a really important week for us, it’s been an amazing three wins,” he continued. “We’re alive in the league which was maybe one month ago, we never thought to arrive with this chance.

“But it’s amazing to arrive to another final. This is my second season and my second final in the FA Cup and I hope we can win it.”
