Scotland fans honoured Donny Strathie during the World Cup match against Morocco in Foxborough. The 76-year-old died before he could see Scotland's first game.
In the 76th minute, thousands rose to applaud at the family's request as his image filled the stadium's big screen, with Scotland trailing. According to the BBC, he had travelled across Europe with the Tartan Army for decades.
From Grangemouth, Strathie died on Sunday after collapsing at a hotel in Norwood, near Boston.
On the eve of the match, head coach Steve Clarke sent condolences to his family. He said he believed Strathie's dream was to see Scotland back at a World Cup, and that he had been able to experience that before his death.
A loyal Falkirk and Scotland supporter, he followed the national side to Wembley, Norway, France, Portugal, Malta and Lithuania.
