Scots must not lose if they are to progress into knockout stages
Scotland face Brazil tonight in an enthralling final game of their Group C campaign. Steve Clarke’s side, playing at the World Cup for the first time since 1998, are looking to reach the knockout stages for the first time in their history, and have a chance of doing that this evenintg should they not lose against the Selecao.
In their opening game against Haiti, they won 1-0 thanks to John McGinn’s strike, but they were beaten by an impressive Morocco by the same secoreline on matchday two. Clarke reverted to a back five for that match, and it remains to be seen whether he takes the same cautious approach here against one of the favourites for the competition.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men, however, recovered from a 1-1 draw with Morocco to record a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti as Vinicius Junior continued to playing a starring role, while Matheus Cunha was integrated into the side, repaying his manager’s faith with a goal.
