Amid surprising reports Scott McTominay is sizing up a return to England, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are keen to offer him a direct route back to the Premier League.
Truthfully, you’d struggle to see why the midfielder would even consider a switch back, given how remarkable his Napoli tenure has panned out thus far.

McTominay’s maiden campaign in Naples was nothing short of sensational.
After signing for the club in a £25 million deal, he was brought off the bench for his Serie A debut, and proceeded to start every single fixture for the remainder of the term – bar one due to flu.
He returned a hugely impressive 12 goals and six assists, therefore exceeding his previous career-best record achieved at Old Trafford the season prior, during which he recorded seven league goals and one assist.
The Carrington graduate’s efforts made him an instant hit with the Napoli faithful, and it only continued when they realised his tremendous form wasn’t just a purple patch – it lasted from August to May, when they lifted the Scudetto after pipping Inter Milan to the title by just a single point. McTominay was subsequently named the Serie A’s Most Valuable Player.
Last month, it was confirmed that he had finished 18th-placed in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

Now three months into 2025/2026, Napoli sit atop the table, and the former Red has already notched two goals and an assist in his first eight appearances.
Should he decide to embark on a completely new venture upon the culmination of the campaign, McTominay is likely to have his pick of suitors.
TeamTalk claim that Spurs view the 28-year-old as the ‘ideal player to provide the energy and spark’ Thomas Frank wants in the dressing room.
Eddie Howe is said to be a firm admirer of his talents, as is Barcelona boss Hansi Flick.
