Scott Parker felt his Burnley side could have beaten Chelsea on Saturday, but he “can’t be anything but proud” after securing a late draw at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro gave the hosts an early lead, but the Blues were reduced to ten men in the second half when Wesley Fofana was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Clarets took advantage in stoppage time when Zian Flemming scored with a superb header from a corner.

“A little bit frustrated but overall I can’t be anything but proud of the team,” Parker told BBC Sport. “Overall our performance was worthy of the point we gained, and maybe it could have been three.

“In the first half I felt we were getting into the game, second half you play a quality side with 10 men and sometimes that quality can still prove problematic. But our desire and intent was first class.”

On Flemming’s goal, Parker said: “Incredible header. A set-piece straight off the training ground in terms of how we free up that space. James is on the money every time.”

Burnley are eight points adrift of safety, but Parker was relieved to make up for last weekend’s shock defeat to third tier Mansfield in the FA Cup.

“We were at fault last weekend for bringing the noise back on us,” he said.

“At times with the level we have come up against we have fallen short. What we have never fallen short on is togetherness, commitment and resilience. The resilience of the group to pick themselves up and keep doing what they do… this team has serious resilience and hopefully we’re still in this.”
