Manchester City are currently subject to a double loan proposal from Scottish Premier League side Motherwell, according to new reports.

The latest approach from Fir Park follows on from a recent collaboration between the two clubs, as Will Dickson joined the Scottish outfit from Manchester City’s Academy during the second half of the 2024/25 season.

That short-term arrangement was viewed positively by all parties, with the young striker gaining valuable senior experience and Motherwell benefitting from added depth in their attacking department. Now, the Scottish side appear keen to rekindle that relationship.

City have become increasingly open to loaning players into Scotland in recent years, seeing the physicality and exposure to first-team competition as key developmental tools for players aged between 17 and 21.

This latest interest arrives at a time when City are actively reviewing a range of loan opportunities for a number of promising Academy players. While some talents – such as Divine Mukasa, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, and Max Alleyne – may stay within the Elite Development Squad, others are seen as ready for senior football and will likely be placed at clubs where guaranteed minutes and an appropriate tactical system can accelerate progress.

Now, according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, Motherwell of the Scottish Premier League have proposed loan deals to Etihad Stadium officials for two of the club’s young talents.

It remains unclear which two players have been earmarked, although previous connections and positional needs may offer some clues. Midfielders such as Mahamadou Susoho – highly regarded within the CFA – could fit the physical and technical profiles Motherwell are targeting, while young defenders or full-backs are also believed to be under consideration.

Much will depend on how City choose to structure pre-season, and whether proposed moves offer the right environment and competitive assurances the club demands. The Etihad hierarchy typically insist on detailed playing-time plans and positional development guarantees before green-lighting any temporary departure, and will likely evaluate Motherwell’s plan against several other loan enquiries.

Regardless of the final decision, the dialogue between City and Motherwell underlines the increasing importance of strategic loan moves in the club’s development model. As the 2025/26 season approaches and Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad continues to evolve, City will be intent on ensuring their next generation of talent is primed to take the next step.
