Inter will meet Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Saturday May nine, ahead of their Serie A game against Lazio that evening. Coach Cristian Chivu will lead the delegation.

According to Football Italia, the champions are staying in Rome for several days because a quirk in the fixtures has handed them successive matches against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. They play in Serie A on Saturday May nine, then return on Wednesday May 13 for the Coppa Italia Final.

The audience with the Pope is scheduled for 10.00 local time on Saturday. Chivu, president Beppe Marotta, club directors and the full squad are due to attend.

Kick-off in Serie A is at 18.00 local time the same day.

Inter celebrated their Scudetto at the weekend, and title winners traditionally receive a special papal audience. Napoli under Antonio Conte had a similar visit last summer with the American Pope, who had only recently taken the role.
