Sean Dyche accepts Evangelos Marinakis is unlikely to sack him over one night at Leeds, yet last-placed Wolves at the City Ground tonight feels pivotal after a run that has placed his tenure under scrutiny.
NY Times notes that Forest under Dyche have swung between promising and abject, a cycle he must break to restore stability after Nuno Espirito Santo’s fallout triggered a chaotic season.
Before the 3-1 at Elland Road, Forest had a run featuring a 2-1 win at West Ham, a draw with Arsenal, a 2-0 loss at Brentford and a 1-1 with Crystal Palace. They also beat Premier League champions Liverpool in November and 2024-25 Europa League winners Tottenham before Christmas.
The lows have been stark, with 3-0 and 2-0 defeats to Everton in December, a flat FA Cup exit at Wrexham on penalties and a meek 1-0 loss at Braga in the Europa League. Dyche was shortlisted for January’s manager of the month, then faced questions days later.
Forest chose Dyche over Roberto Mancini and, after initially discussing a short-term arrangement, handed him a contract to summer 2027. He was hired to keep the club up, a fight the club had already acknowledged.
Tonight is Dyche’s 25th game, with Forest only two points above Nuno’s West Ham in the final relegation place. It is nearly two months since their last home league win, 3-0 against Spurs on 14 December, and he says he embraces the scrutiny and expected a tough job.
