Sean Dyche backs Harrison Armstrong and offers PSR theory on Nottingham Forest bid | OneFootball

Sean Dyche says Harrison Armstrong has every chance of becoming a top player as he reflected on Nottingham Forest’s approach and suggested Profit and Sustainability Rules may have shaped Everton’s stance.

"He's a good player; I gave him his debut."

Dyche first blooded the 19-year-old in a pre-season friendly against Salford City in summer 2024. Weeks later he handed him a senior debut at Tottenham Hotspur in the opening away game, when Armstrong was 17.

Loans at Derby County and Preston North End accelerated his rise, before a recall from Preston in January last season.

He has featured in every Premier League match this term and, with injuries to Christian Norgaard, James Garner and Merlin Rohl, has become central to the starting line-up.

Forest’s move sparked fierce opposition from Blues supporters, including a backlash in the away end at Bournemouth after owners The Friedkin Group weighed up a sale. TFG dropped talks the next day.

"It's still early, but I can see why clubs were sniffing, and why Forest made the cheeky approach." He added: "Maybe, because of PSR and the history of Everton's homegrown talent, they thought it was a bundle of money for PSR and all that. I'm not saying they were never going to get him, by the way, with Forest being the club chasing him, but he's got every chance."
