Nottingham Forest are hopeful striker Chris Wood will be out for weeks rather than months following knee surgery, according to Nottingham Post.

Wood has been sidelined since mid-October and has yet to feature under Reds head coach Sean Dyche. He had returned to work on the grass before undergoing an operation.

Dyche said the procedure went well and Wood was at the City Ground in a knee brace as Forest lost 2-1 to Manchester City.

The head coach described it as a form of cartilage operation and stressed it will not be days. He added they must see how the knee settles before judging the next steps.

Dyche avoided setting a firm timeline, noting setbacks can occur and any return depends on a smooth pathway back to fitness.

Before the match, Wood posted from a hospital bed on Instagram, calling it a frustrating spell and saying surgery was needed to come back stronger and help his team in the Premier League and in Europe. He thanked medical staff, team-mates and supporters, and signed off with a message to see everyone in 2026.
