Sean Dyche says a change of environment and reduced pressure has helped Dominic Calvert-Lewin flourish at Leeds United after persistent injuries at Everton.
The striker departed as a free agent last summer after nine years, arriving amid doubts over durability. He had started fewer than 20 league games in three of his previous four seasons and had not reached double figures since 2020/21.
Since debuting at Newcastle in August, he has not missed a top-flight game through injury, sitting out only a 2-2 draw at Chelsea due to illness. That consistency has yielded 11 goals and an England call-up last month.
“He was close, but we could never get him full-out freedom to go sprint and play; he has found that at Leeds,” Dyche told talkSPORT.
The 29-year-old’s purple patch came in winter, scoring seven in six and winning December’s Premier League Player of the Month. One was an 82nd-minute header from a Willy Gnonto cross in a 1-1 draw at Brentford.
He has scored only once in the league since early February. “I’m feeling good,” Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports. “I think this is the fittest I’ve been in a long time and I've worked extremely hard to get in this position.”
