According to reports from Algemeen Dagblad, Dick Schreuder is set to become the new NEC Nijmegen boss. The 53-year-old Gelderlander has nearly ironed out all the wrinkles in negotiations with the Goffertstadion residents and is rumoured to have signed a contract for three years until mid-2028.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Schreuder and NEC had almost reached an agreement. He still had to settle a few matters with the Spanish Castellon, the club he was fired from in January. Those further discussions have taken place, enabling Schreuder to complete his transfer to NEC.

It is believed that Schreuder’s presentation at the club will happen in mid-May when the season is over. In the meantime, NEC will hunt for a ticket for the play-offs for European football in the last five rounds of the Eredivisie.

Roger Meijer

Schreuder will arrive as the successor of Rogier Meijer, who will be departing NEC at the end of this season. The Doetinchem native was in charge of De Goffert for six years and has been very successful. Honours include a promotion to the Eredivisie and a cup final appearance. While NEC have experienced a difficult season, they were still able to secure first-division status.

Schreuder worked at Castellon for a year and a half. He became champion at the third level with the ambitious club in his first season, but was then fired after a series of disappointing results. Before that, Schreuder was a trainer at PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, with which he was relegated from the Eredivisie (he only joined late in the season), but was promoted again the following year.

Furthermore, Schreuder’s career has seen him take on roles at Vitesse, TSG Hoffenheim, Philadelphia and Barnet. As a player, the midfielder played for PSV, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Groningen, RKC Waalwijk, Stoke City, Helmond Sport and Go Ahead Eagles.
