Club América have rejected a bid from Celta Vigo for Sebastián Cáceres, which did not meet the club’s conditions, and the Uruguay defender is set to stay for now, according to Americayya.net.
Cáceres joined América in 2020 from Liverpool in Uruguay as a 20-year-old prospect. His early spell included high-profile mistakes, notably the error that led to the only goal in the 2021 Concachampions final against Monterrey.
Over time he has become one of Liga MX’s standout centre-backs, pivotal in the six trophies América have won, and he has established himself as a starter for Uruguay.
The Spanish club’s offer appears to have been about five million dollars, well short of América’s expectations for a first-choice international.
His immediate future, however, is not guaranteed. There are still several days left in the window and further bids for the América defender cannot be ruled out.
