Stuttgart slipped to another away defeat, with a late Fábio Vieira strike denying them a point in Hamburg. The Swabians responded to going behind with Deniz Undav’s sixth goal in three matches, but they lost to the ten-man HSV for failing to deal with a late counterattack.
“From our point of view, it was an especially painful end to the game,” said VfB’s Sebastian Hoeneß. “We had the first chance through Bouanani, but we didn’t cover ourselves in glory for their goal. After that, we lacked intensity and energy.
“Things improved in the second half, but we were still missing that decisive thrust for the most part. What really frustrates me more than the late goal is that we didn’t make enough of the period when we had an extra man. We have to learn from that, and I’m sure my team will do just that. Congratulations to HSV for victory.”
Stuttgart will be in action on Wednesday with a cup tie in Bochum. Their next Bundesliga game pit them against league leaders Bayern Munich at the MHP Arena.
