Sebastien Szymanski (26) is set to join Stade Rennais in a deal worth just over €10m, including bonuses, according to a report from L’Équipe and RMC Sport.
It will be a crucial second half of the season for Rennes. Habib Beye has already confirmed that it is Europe or bust in terms of his future; failure to qualify for European competition again will cost him his job, and given the continued investment in the club, it is a minimum requirement.
Strengthening the squad during the current transfer window is seen as a means to help them achieve that result and Szymanski has now emerged as a target. The playmaker has 50 caps for Poland; he has scored six goals during that time.
He is now expected to arrive in Rennes on Thursday. The Poland international is expected to sign a deal that runs until 2029. The deal is worth €9.5m plus an extra €1m in add-ons. He will likely be eligible to face FC Lorient on Saturday.
