Nina Patalon’s Polish ladies fell to a second straight defeat on Saturday afternoon in the Pinatar Cup, suffering a 2-1 reverse against Hungary.

Patalon made five changes to the line-up which was defeated by Ireland in Wednesday, with Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kasia Kiedrzynek returning after ten months out, and Anna Zapała, Joanna Wróbelska, Natalia Padilla-Bidas and Nikola Kaletka also put into the starting eleven.

Kiedrzynek was called into action early on, with a couple of good saves; but only held out until the 16th minute, when Henrietta Cziszar’s shot from distance should have been stopped.

Poland responded well to going 1-0 down, and were level within 4 minutes. Nikolas Kaletka and Karczewska combined on the left-hand side, and the former’s ball into 1.FC Koln attacker Weronika Zawistowska was converted well.

The Orlice should perhaps have even been 2-1 up at the break, with Zawistowska playing in Padilla-Bidas, who was thwarted by Hungarian keeper Biro.

Both Adriana Achcińska and Dominika Grabowska were introduced into the middle of the park at the break, and helped Poland dominate much of the second period. Zawistowska had three good chances to put the Poles in front, but firstly hit the bar and then was blocked twice by Biro. Ewelina Kamczyk and Zofia Buszewska also went close, but we’re inaccurate with their shooting.

Then, with the game on the brink of penalty kicks, the Hungarians snatched victory. A defensive mix-up allowed Fanny Vago space, and the Ferencvaros striker left Kiedrzynek helpless, and Poland with a final match of the tournament to determine last place.

Patalon’s charges take to the La Manga field next on Tuesday, to face Slovakia, who were defeated 2-0 by Scotland.
