Max Eberl has established a new culture of openness, analysis and long-term planning at FC Bayern. The sporting director is working flat out to strategically reorganise the German record champions – and has now sent out a clear signal to this end. According to the BILD podcast„Bayern Insider“, Eberl recently organised a workshop lasting several hours at the Allianz Arena, during which the club’s sporting future was comprehensively examined.
Under the title „Workshop Analyse Status Quo Sport“, the 52-year-old brought together all the departments responsible for sport at the club. Eight hours of intensive discussion, reflection and planning took place.
„All departments reported on how far they have come and what can be improved,“ explains BILD reporter Tobi Altschäffl. Eberl received organisational support from Kathleen Krüger, who coordinated the processes. Internally, the workshop is seen as a central building block on the way to a structured, modern and holistic management culture at Säbener Straße.
The aim of the meeting was to synchronise FC Bayern at all levels – sporting, organisational and cultural. Eberl had each department present its status quo in order to create clear interfaces and responsibilities.
The message was clear: the record champions should work in a more efficient, networked and future-orientated way. Instead of individual actions, Eberl is focussing on joint strategies – an approach that has met with particular approval from head coach Vincent Kompany and sports director Christoph Freund.

In addition to the pure analysis, Eberl surprised with an unusually personal note. The sporting director spoke openly about his burn-out experiences from his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach – and the lessons he learnt from them.
„He spoke openly – including about switching off his mobile phone and spending time with his dog,“ Altschäffl reports in the podcast.
This honesty was very well received at the club. With his management style, Eberl wants to show that sustainability and mental health are also essential in top-class sport. His credo: only those who lead in a balanced way can manage successfully in the long term.
Parallel to the internal reforms, Eberl is working on the international expansion of the club. Following offices in New York, Bangkok and Shanghai, a further foreign office is currently being set up in Seoul.
„FC Bayern is also expanding to South Korea – the new office in Seoul is currently being set up,“ confirms BILD chief reporter Christian Falk.
The record champions are thus strengthening their presence in one of the most important football markets in Asia. In addition, there are already discussions about another trip to Asia next year in order to cultivate the growing local fan base and tap into new economic potential.
Eberl’s signature is becoming increasingly clear: no actionism, no quick fixes, but well thought-out planning, open communication and long-term goals. „Eberl was hard-working, you don’t always realise everything he does in the background,“ summarises Falk.
