Defender Gabriel Paulista was introduced this Monday as a new signing for Corinthians. In a press conference at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava, the player said he is ready to play and spoke about his characteristics.
Gabriel describes himself as a “fast” defender with “good ball distribution.” He believes he improved his ball-playing skills during his time in European football.
“I’ve always been a fast defender, with good ball distribution. I improved with the ball at my feet after I went to Europe. I grew a lot. I had difficulties when I arrived in Spanish football; in Europe, you train a lot in tight spaces, with few touches, sometimes you can’t even touch the ball. I adapted, I improved. Today I have a good pass, a good long pass,” the defender said.
The player also stands out for his versatility. He can play in a back four or a back three, a system used by Dorival Júnior last year. In addition, Gabriel has experience as a right-back.
“At the start of my career, I played as a full-back. I also played as a full-back at Valencia, Arsenal, and Besiktas. I won’t have any trouble. I’m already adapted. If the coach wants to play with three defenders, I’m also adapted. Corinthians already played like that last year, so the squad has that experience,” he commented.
