Rennes midfielder Seko Fofana (29) has resigned from Racing Club de Lens’ board in the wake of his transfer to their Ligue 1 rivals from Brittany, as reported by La Voix du Nord. During his final season with the Artois side in 2023, the Ivory Coast international became a minority shareholder at the club, earning a seat on the board. Fofana then left Lens to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. The former Udinese midfielder was loaned out to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq before agreeing to return to the French top-tier with Rennes offering him a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Considering Rennes and Lens have opposing interests, it would have been a curious sight to see an RC Lens board member play against Will Still’s Sang et Or, although nothing in the French League’s regulations formally prohibits it. Still, to prevent such a situation, the former GFFN 100 winner has decided to retain his minority share but ultimately resigned from Lens’ board. Fofana made his debut on Friday for Rennes during Les Rouge et Noir‘s 3-2 away loss to Nice.
