The Reds have endured a challenging campaign, as they are set to end the season trophyless and also risk missing out on Champions League qualification.

Salah blasted Slot in a recent social media post, calling for a return to the ‘heavy metal’ attacking football synonymous with former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney wasn’t impressed with 33-year-old’s comments.

Rooney branded the forward ‘selfish’ and said he should be dropped for Liverpool’s final match of the season against Brentford.

He told the Wayne Rooney Show: “He wants to play heavy metal football, so he’s basically saying he wants Jurgen Klopp football. Now I don’t think Mo Salah can cope with that type of football anymore. I think his legs have gone to play at that high tempo and high intensity.

“If I was Arne Slot, I’d have him nowhere near the stadium in the last game. I had it with Alex Ferguson. I had a disagreement and fall out and at Alex Ferguson’s last game at Old Trafford, he left me out of the squad for that reason.”

Salah announced in March that he will leave Liverpool this summer after agreeing to end his contract a year early.

The Egyptian has been a faithful servant for the Merseyside titans since joining from Roma in 2017.

He has earned legendary status at Anfield after leading his side to three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

However, attacking his manager publicly reflects poorly on Salah, who has now made this mistake twice.

Slot is a top coach who won the Premier League title in his debut season at Liverpool.

The Dutch boss has been facing intense scrutiny from fans after a disappointing 2025-26 season.

But the club’s hierarchy reportedly have no intention to part company with Slot.
