Hull have parted ways with head coach Rubén Sellés after fewer than six months in charge.
The team narrowly avoided dropping into League One on the final day of the Championship season, surviving on goal difference after being bottom of the table when Sellés arrived from Reading in December.
The 41-year-old Spaniard is now the third manager dismissed by Hull owner Acun Ilicali in the last 12 months, and the club is beginning its search for a fifth full-time boss since the Turkish media figure took over in early 2022.
Hull said in a statement: “Following a thorough review of football operations after a challenging campaign, the club feels a change in leadership is necessary to move the team forward in line with our ambitions.”
The Tigers started the final matchday in the relegation zone, but a 1-1 draw away at Portsmouth was enough to keep them up. During his tenure, Sellés recorded nine victories in 27 league matches.
He had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract after stepping down as Reading’s head coach and replaced Tim Walter at the MKM Stadium.
Walter had previously been named as successor to Liam Rosenior, who was dismissed in May 2024 despite leading Hull to a seventh-place finish - just three points outside the playoff spots.
