Hundreds took to the streets of Dakar this Saturday, demanding the release of 18 fans detained after the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

According to local media, the protesters are calling for the release of 18 supporters who were detained and subsequently handed prison sentences ranging from 3 to 18 months.

The angry crowd also issued an appeal to the Senegalese government, urging it to exhaust all diplomatic and legal avenues. Addressing the National Assembly a week ago, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko assured that the government would do everything in its power, mentioning the possibilities of a royal pardon or transferring the convicted fans.
