On Tuesday night, Senegal pulled off a stunning comeback against DR Congo. The Lions of Teranga's head coach shared his thoughts on this thrilling encounter.
Senegal's head coach, Pape THIAW, offered his analysis following his team's crucial 3-2 victory on DR Congo's home turf Tuesday night. This clash was part of Matchday 8 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Trailing 2-0, Senegal turned the tables on their opponents.
"We were up against a strong Congolese team. Even when we were behind, we never lost our composure or left ourselves exposed. Even as we pushed forward, we maintained our defensive balance. We stayed calm and stuck to our game plan. The goal we scored before halftime really helped us. In the locker room, we talked things through and the players listened to instructions. When we came back out, we played in behind their defense and it paid off. The players deserve praise, but nothing is done yet because there are still two matches left. We have two more finals to play and we're going to give it everything to reach the next World Cup," the Senegalese coach explained.
In October, the Lions will face South Sudan in Juba and Mauritania in Dakar to wrap up the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
