According to L'Équipe, Senegal’s press reacted with fury after CAF ruled on Tuesday that Morocco had won the last Africa Cup of Nations by administrative decision, two months after the Lions of Teranga had lifted the trophy on the pitch.
Front pages across Dakar denounced the choice. Le Soleil labelled it the joke of the century, while Walf Quotidien described a continental farce.
Tribune Sport highlighted federation president Augustin Senghor insisting Senegal would keep its trophy whatever happens. The paper also carried Claude Le Roy’s criticism of the CAF appeals jury ruling, saying he could not imagine the body would go so far into farce.
On the Moroccan side, Le 360 reported scenes of celebration in Casablanca despite heavy rain. Its sport section argued CAF had delivered justice to Morocco and protected African football from a repeat of anti-play behaviour.
Elsewhere on the continent, reaction skewed critical. Guinean site Le Djély called the decision simply scandalous, said CAN 2025 would be forever tied to disgrace and ridicule, and judged Morocco’s run tarnished by an unjust verdict. Burkinabè outlet Wakat Sera even urged Moroccans to refuse a trophy being imposed on them.
