The former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini have once again been acquitted by a Swiss court on charges of fraud, forgery, mismanagement and misappropriation of over 2 million Swiss francs of FIFA’s money in 2011, according to a report by AP News.

This is the second time that the two former presidents have been acquitted, the first coming in 2022, which had been challenged by the Swiss attorney general who had asked for both men to receive sentences of 20 months in prison, suspended for two years. Blatter and Platini have always denied any wrongdoing.

The case was centred around Blatter’s approval of a payment from FIFA to the former France international of 2.2 million Swiss francs for consultancy work from 1998 to 2002. The two men claim to have reached a gentleman’s agreement that the payment would be backdated, due to FIFA’s poor finances at the time of the consultancy work.
