Speaking after his Serbia side squandered a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 with Cameroon in Group G, coach Dragan Stojković didn’t hold back when assessing his team’s performance. Referring to his team’s high line which was broken twice in short order by Cameroon sub Vincent Aboubakar to score one and assist another, the former Marseille and Red Star Belgrade midfielder said:
“It’s not a good day, we’re frustrated by the result. To lead 3-1 at this level… we managed to let them reach 3-3, it’s frustrating. I think we reacted well after their first goal, we created several good chances but, after the three goals, an attempt to play an offside like that at this level should not happen, it’s amateurish and it cost us the victory. We have to move on – what I saw, statistics, ball possession and our dominance, it means nothing at the moment… We scored some good goals but, at this level you shouldn’t make such mistakes. Their two goals were identical, which is unacceptable.”
