“I decided with my heart to join Brugge,” Stankovic told Belgian magazine HLN, via FCInter1908.

“After the first talks with the club’s directors, I was convinced. In July, I met the directors in a Milan hotel, and after two minutes I said yes. Brugge is a big club that gives young players a chance, even in the Champions League. That was decisive for me.”

After emerging through the Inter youth system, the Serbian completed a move to Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge in the summer.

However, the deal contains a buyback clause, with Inter able to resign the midfielder for around €25 million.

On reports of the buyback clause with Inter, he added: “I don’t know about that; you’d have to ask them. That clause wasn’t necessary for me. I just wanted to move to Brugge.”

The Brugge midfielder is the son of former Lazio and Inter legend Dejan Stankovic, and of his three footballing sons, Aleksandar looks most destined for success.

Stankovic also credits his father for instilling discipline and humility, emphasizing the importance of effort and hunger to succeed.

“No one is going to give you anything,” he said. “That’s why I stay humble and don’t behave like a star.”
