Sergi Canós Tenés scored for Real Valladolid in a draw at El Molinón, then dedicated the strike to his late mother. He reflected on the toughest spell of his career.
According to Superdeporte, his homecoming to Valencia at the end of the market did not go as hoped, and in February the death of his mother, Alicia, was a devastating blow.
Struggling physically and emotionally, he never settled at Valencia and moved in the summer to Valladolid to reconnect in Segunda and regain confidence. Pucela have been fractious and closer to the bottom than expected, and a week ago the squad were insulted on arrival for training.
This weekend brought a point under new coach Fran Escribá. After the match, Canós spoke starkly about the past three years since his mother died, saying he has found it hard to lift his head.
He said he had long wanted his first Real Valladolid goal so he could dedicate it to her, and that being able to do so with every goal would make his family happy. He added that the team produced a strong display, that Escribá had given him belief and that he felt himself again, although the point felt meagre.
