Sergi Canós struck as Real Valladolid earned a point at El Molinón this weekend, then reflected on a gruelling spell and an emotional family loss following Fran Escribá’s arrival.
According to Superdeporte, the Nules-born winger returned to Valencia hoping a homecoming would help, but a late-window move, a difficult adaptation and the death of his mother Alicia in February left him reeling.
Physical and mental setbacks meant he never settled at Valencia, and he chose to join Valladolid last summer in Segunda to rebuild and regain confidence.
The landscape has been turbulent, with Valladolid underperforming and tempers flaring, including supporters insulting the squad on arrival for training a week ago.
At El Molinón, Valladolid salvaged a draw with the lift of Escribá’s arrival and Canós was among the scorers.
He said he had long yearned to score for Valladolid and to dedicate his first to his mother, adding that he has struggled to move on over the past three years and that such tributes could buoy his family.
Canós also sounded encouraged by Escribá’s impact, saying the coach had given him belief, that he felt like himself again and that Valladolid must attack every match, even if this point felt scant reward.
