Sergio Busquets returns to Barcelona as Barça Atlètic assistant coach | OneFootball

Barcelona announced on Monday that Sergio Busquets has returned to the club as assistant coach of Barça Atlètic, the reserve side competing in Spain's fourth tier.

The move lands as supporters await confirmation of Rodri's transfer. Busquets, 38, rejoins his boyhood club to work under head coach Juliano Belletti, 50, the former right back who played for Barcelona from 2004 to 2007.

A 2010 World Cup winner with Spain, where he won 143 caps, Busquets lifted the Champions League three times with Barcelona in 2009, 2011 and 2015. He will serve as an assistant while completing the course for his head coach qualification.

He retired at the end of 2025 after two and a half years at Inter Miami.

Before moving to MLS in summer 2023, Busquets spent 15 seasons in Barcelona's first team from 2008 to 2023. His 722 appearances rank third in club history, behind Xavi on 767 and Lionel Messi on 778. A La Masia graduate, he now adds experience and know-how to Belletti's staff.
