Real Sociedad parted company with head coach Sergio Francisco on Sunday after a 1-2 home defeat by Girona on Friday in the 16th round of La Liga.

The club said in a statement that Sergio Francisco had been dismissed, thanked him for his professionalism, involvement and commitment over 11 years including spells with the C and B teams, and named B-team coach Ion Ansotegui as interim for the final two matches before the winter break.

The Girona loss was their third in a row. They have managed only one win in their past five league games.

La Real are 15th in the table, one point above the relegation zone.

Francisco departs with a record of six wins, four draws and eight defeats.
