Bologna earned only their second victory of the campaign, as Riccardo Orsolini and Jens Odgaard sent Cagliari to another loss.
The Sardinians saw their mini-streak of seven points from three rounds ended by a 2-0 defeat at Udinese, where Antoine Makoumbou was sent off and therefore suspended. Jakub Jankto and Kingstone Mutandwa were also in the stands. Vincenzo Italiano was increasingly frustrated after one win in 11 competitive games, but Saturday’s match with Milan was postponed over flood warnings. Michel Aebischer joined Martin Erlic, Oussama El Azzouzi and Nicolò Cambiaghi on the treatment table.
There was a mad scramble in the opening three minutes, as Lukasz Skorupski with help from the upright clawed away the deflected Roberto Piccoli cross, then the Gianluca Gaetano headed follow-up was cleared off the line.
Juan Miranda had an effort charged down and Riccardo Orsolini pounced on a defensive error only to be denied by Simone Scuffet’s fingertips from close range.

Orsolini again was wasteful when turning over from 10 yards on the Dan Ndoye through ball, but he did take it with his weaker right foot when blasting into the near top corner from a tricky angle after again running onto the Ndoye assist.
Piccoli held off Jhon Lucumi to force a Skorupski save at the base of the near post, but Bologna doubled their lead after the restart.
Simone Scuffet should’ve done better when dealing with the Jens Odgaard left-foot swing from outside the area that squirmed into the near bottom corner.
Cagliari tried to get back into it, Skorupski needing a great double save first on Gaetano’s deflected angled drive, then Razvan Marin at the near post on the resulting corner. He also bravely rushed out to smother at the feet of Mattia Felici.
