Como picked up an impressive 2-0 victory away against Fiorentina in Serie A in Sunday’s early kick-off; Mature finishes from youngsters Assane Diao and Nico Paz settled the scores at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Raffaele Palladino handed full Fiorentina debuts to January signings Nicolo Zaniolo and Nicolo Fagioli, who started alongside fellow January recruit Michael Folorunsho in attack. There was no Moise Kean, who served a one-match ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Inter on Monday. Patrick Cutrone was out of the Como line-up and replaced by midfielder Maxence Caqueret in Como’s only change following their 2-1 loss against Juventus last week.
Zaniolo tried to catch Jean Butez out with a shot straight after kick-off, but the effort went just over the bar for a goal kick. The Como ‘keeper had to be alert again in the fourth minute to deny Robin Gosens when he tried to latch onto Rolando Mandragora’s fine ball over the top from a free-kick.

David De Gea needed to make an important first-half intervention on Diao at the other end after he was slipped into the area by Maxence Caqueret mid-way through the opening period.
Nico Paz also sent Diao into the area with a lovely touch, which needed a strong piece of defending from Martin Pongracic, who put in two big blocks to stop the shot before it reached De Gea.
Fiorentina had an opportunity to deliver into the area from a deep free-kick, but were hit on the counter attack by the pace of Diao, who carried the ball from the halfway line into the area and slotted past De Gea one-on-one for 1-0.

The first quarter of an hour of the second half was tarnished by scuffles and off-the-ball incidents. Play was stopped three times within the space of five minutes, which ended in bookings for Micahel Folorunsho and Edoardo Goldaniga.
Como went on to double their advantage through Nico Paz two thirds of the way through proceedings. A sloppy passage of Fiorentina play saw them dispossessed in their own half by Alex Valle, before Lucas Da Cunha played it to the Argentine, who hit one in off the post from the edge of the area for 2-0.
Today’s result leaves Fiorentina in sixth in the table, just one point above Milan and Bologna, both of whom have a game in hand. Como are now up to 13th, five points away from the top half of the Serie A table.
