Genoa and Lecce shared the spoils in a goalless draw at Marassi, with Wladimiro Falcone earning the visitors a point with two big saves.

Both teams started the campaign with victories in the Coppa Italia last week and were hoping to keep that going in Serie A. Caleb Ekuban and Sebastian Otoa were injured for the hosts, with Leo Ostigard not 100 per cent fit. Lecce had Santiago Pierotti suspended, plus Filip Marchwinski and Gaby Jean out for the long-term with ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments.

Tete Morente’s volley was deflected wide by an arm, but was flush to the Genoa defender’s body.

It took a while for the hosts to get into the game, when new signings combined as Albert Gronbaek rode a couple of tackles and found Nicolae Stanciu with a disguised pass, blasting just over from a tight angle.

Wladimiro Falcone got down for a sensational fingertip save on the line, keeping out the Valentin Carboni first-time daisy-cutter.

Falcone was tested again after the restart by Aaron Martin at the near post, while Stanciu’s free kick bent around the wall to hit the side-netting.
