Serie A holds off emergency appeal, five Week 37 fixtures remain in limbo | OneFootball

Lega Serie A has yet to file its threatened emergency appeal, leaving uncertainty over five Week 37 fixtures despite a plan for 11.00 UK kick-offs on Sunday. According to Football Italia, president Ezio Simonelli said the league proposed simultaneous starts at 12.00 CEST for Roma-Lazio, Juventus-Fiorentina, Genoa-Milan, Como-Parma and Pisa-Napoli.

Simultaneous scheduling is deemed necessary to protect fairness in the Champions League race. Local authorities, citing public safety, have moved the Rome derby from Sunday 11.30 UK, 12.30 CEST, to Monday 19.45 UK, 20.45 CEST.

The shift follows the Italian Open men’s final set for 14.00 UK, 15.00 CEST, at the Foro Italico, the same complex as the Stadio Olimpico.

Simonelli said the league respects the Prefect’s decision but does not agree with it, and has asked Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi to allow the five matches to be brought forward to 12.00 CEST. He added they hoped for a reply by evening, otherwise they would appeal to the TAR tribunal.

If taken to the tribunal, any decision would take another 24 hours, further prolonging the uncertainty.

Piantedosi voiced frustration, calling the local ruling obvious on safety grounds and noting the clash could have been addressed earlier given the known Italian Open schedule. The league’s calendar could therefore have avoided scheduling the derby on the same weekend.
