Mikayil Faye struggling with US Cremonese

In search of more playing time, Mikayil Faye was loaned by Stade Rennais to US Cremonese. However, his situation has grown even more complicated in Italy.
Once touted as a future star, Mikayil Faye was seen as a major prospect. Having turned professional with Barça in July 2024, the 21-year-old full-back was quickly sold to Rennes, despite some impressive performances for Barça Atlètic and promising appearances with the first team of the Blaugrana.
His season with the Breton club was far from a success, as he featured in just 13 matches across all competitions. Looking for a fresh start, he decided to try his luck in a new league by signing with Cremonese in Italy.
The Sedhiou native has played only 7 Serie A matches, totaling a mere 234 minutes on the pitch. Not nearly enough to establish himself and showcase his talent.
This situation has led the Italian club to make an early decision regarding the future of the Senegal international. His purchase option will not be exercised, meaning he will return to France next summer.
Having scored on his only appearance for the Lions of Teranga against Gabon (1-0), he is not expected to be part of the 2026 World Cup squad.
