Inter took top place in Serie A, but then stumbled to a 1-1 Supercoppa Italiana draw against Bologna, losing the semi-final on a penalty shoot-out.

They are also dealing with quite a few injuries, as Ange-Yoan Bonny sprained his knee, joining Francesco Acerbi, Denzel Dumfries, Matteo Darmian, Tomas Palacios and Raffaele Di Gennaro on the absentee list.

The good news for Cristian Chivu is the return of Calhanoglu in midfield after his injury against Liverpool, while Piotr Zielinski is preferred to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Atalanta have been totally revitalised since Raffaele Palladino took over from sacked Ivan Juric, winning seven of their last eight games in all competition, including a Champions League victory over Chelsea.

Ademola Lookman and Odilon Kossounou are on AFCON duty, while Raoul Bellanova and Mitchel Bakker are injured.

Berat Djimsiti shakes off a knock to start, while Nicola Zalewski faces his former club after a brief spell with Inter.

Mario Pasalic steps into the attack with De Ketelaere and Scamacca.
