Fiorentina had two goals disallowed, Pisa another, as somehow this fiery Tuscan Derby ended 0-0 to continue a disappointing start for both teams.
These local rivals hadn’t faced off in the top flight since 1991, so it was a hotly-awaited event. Both were struggling this season and still without a victory, as Alberto Gilardino’s Pisa lost three on the bounce. Calvin Stengs will be out for four months following groin surgery, joining Tomas Esteves and Daniel Denoon on the treatment table. The Viola lost Tariq Lamptey for five months to a torn ACL, with Christian Kouamé a long-term absentee, but the mood was dire after back-to-back defeats.

Pisa threatened early on from a corner, M’Bala Nzola nodding wide under pressure from Pablo Mari on the Tramoni knock-down.
Moise Kean responded moments later with an angled drive flashing inches past the post, but former Fiorentina striker Nzola came even closer on 13 minutes when he nodded the Ebeneezer Akinsanmiro assist onto the crossbar.
Dodo saw his strike deflected past the far post off Antonio Caracciolo’s knee, while Rolando Mandragora blasted over after a corner kick routine.
It was end to end, as first the acrobatic Toure scissor-kick volley flashed just over, then Robin Gosens found Hans Nicolussi Caviglia for another spectacular volley, charged down at the back post by Mehdi Leris.
Michael Aebischer went off injured within moments of the restart, while Adrian Semper almost committed a howler when failing to control a back-pass, scrambling back to clear from Kean.

Kean did have the ball in the net on 57 minutes, but was offside after the cleared corner was put back in.
The Italy international also slid onto the wayward Marin Pongracic effort, but was again offside and it was disallowed on 64 minutes.
Pisa had a goal disallowed too when Henrik Meister knocked down the goal kick, let it bounce and scored on the turn with a spectacular half-volley from distance into the far top corner. However, it hit his hand as he turned, so VAR had to intervene.
Juan Cuadrado cut inside from the left and drilled low right-footed from 15 yards to hit the base of the upright, then Bonfanti’s attempt on the rebound struck Pongracic on the hand, but his arm was in a natural position.
Edin Dzeko had a volley charged down in the box and Kean blasted over on the counter-attack.
