Juventus are now five points adrift of Serie A leaders Roma after they were held to a draw by Fiorentina on Monday. Elsewhere, Lina Magull opened her league account to guide Inter to a 3-2 victory over Napoli.
Join us as we round up all the action from matchday 14 of the Serie A season.
Napoli remain stranded at the bottom of the table on three points after falling to a narrow defeat against Inter. Alice Corelli tucked the ball home from close range to get the hosts off to a promising start.
Inter may have been trailing at the break, but they required just seven second half minutes to turn the game on its head. Magull scored her first goal since arriving from Bayern Munich to pull her side level. Buoyed by opening her account for her new club, the midfielder quickly added a second to give the visitors a precious lead.
Elisa Polli went on to sweep the ball home from Henrietta Csiszár’s cut-back to score in a third consecutive game. Although Napoli halved the deficit through Miharu Kobayashi in stoppage time, it proved to be too little too late for the home side.
Pomigliano picked up a useful point in Sunday’s home clash with AC Milan. Both sides were restricted to speculative efforts for the majority of a cagey contest. With clear-cut chances providing hard to come by, a draw was probably a fair result. While Pomigliano remain in ninth place, Milan stay in eighth position as they continue to experience a difficult campaign.
Roma got the better of Sampdoria to claim their 13th victory of the Serie A season. Elena Linari guided the ball in from Benedetta Glionna’s inch-perfect delivery to get the champions up and running. After taking a narrow lead into the half-time interval, Roma doubled their advantage through Giada Greggi in the 67th minute. The 23-year-old pounced on a poor clearance to fire the ball into the bottom corner and wrap up all three points.
Como are now winless in eight matches after they were edged out by Sassuolo on Sunday. The contest looked to be heading towards a goalless draw until Lena Clelland found the breakthrough in the 84th minute. The 31-year-old exchanged a neat one-two with Daniela Sabatino before guiding home her third goal of the Serie A season.
As a result of the victory, Sassuolo moved above Como and into the top half of the table, with just four games left to play until the league splits in two.
Second placed Juventus lost ground to leaders Roma after they played out an entertaining draw with Fiorentina, who currently occupy third position. The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute when January addition Madelen Janogy latched onto Pauline Hammarlund’s through ball, before keeping her composure to slot past Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.
Juventus then hit back through Julia Grosso, who celebrated her fourth league goal of the campaign. Janogy quickly restored Fiorentina’s advantage to register a brace in a second consecutive game for her new side. Unfortunately for Fiorentina, they were denied all three points by Juventus’ own January signing, Onyi Echegini. After controlling the ball with her left foot, the Nigeria international unleashed an unstoppable right-foot strike to ensure the spoils were shared.
