West Ham and Brentford Eye Sassuolo’s Andrea Pinamonti Amid Summer Forward Plans

Italian Striker on Premier League Radar

As the summer transfer window begins to heat up, both West Ham United and Brentford have turned their attention to Sassuolo’s Andrea Pinamonti. According to The Standard, “West Ham and Brentford are interested in signing Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti this summer.” While talks remain in the early stages, the shared interest from both clubs is clear.

Pinamonti’s appeal is easy to understand. The 26-year-old forward netted 11 goals in all competitions during a loan spell at Genoa last season and has developed a reputation as one of Serie A’s most dependable goal scorers. In fact, “the former Inter Milan forward has scored 26 goals across his last three seasons in Italy,” a return that demonstrates a level of consistency both Premier League sides are craving.

With aspirations of returning to Italy’s national team for the first time since 2022, Pinamonti views the Premier League as the perfect platform. The Standard notes, “Pinamonti… is keen on a move to the Premier League as he believes it will give him the platform to stake a claim for his first Italy cap since 2022.”

Brentford Rebuild in Attack

For Brentford, the interest in Pinamonti is part of a wider reassessment of their forward options. The potential departure of star attackers Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa could significantly impact the team’s offensive threat. Together, they were involved in 39 Premier League goals last season, and although “the club… are adamant they don’t want to lose both players in the same window,” the risk remains.

Igor Thiago, Brentford’s record signing, is expected to lead the line next season but endured an injury-hit campaign last term. Matthew Benham’s side are also monitoring Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson, underlining their intent to reinforce their attacking options. Pinamonti’s profile—clinical, experienced, and Premier League-ready—ticks multiple boxes.

West Ham’s Forward Dilemma

West Ham’s pursuit of Pinamonti feels more reactive than proactive. With veteran striker Michail Antonio now a free agent after the expiry of his contract, “West Ham… are weighing up whether to offer striker Michail Antonio a new deal.” As things stand, Graham Potter would be left with only one senior striker in Niclas Fullkrug, signed from Borussia Dortmund.

In that context, Pinamonti is a logical target. His work rate, tactical awareness, and Serie A pedigree make him an intriguing option for Potter, who is still shaping the squad in his image. That said, “there’s been no direct club-to-club contact between Sassuolo and West Ham or Brentford,” but both sides have made preliminary enquiries.

Bundesliga Competition Could Complicate Talks

While both Premier League clubs weigh their moves, Bundesliga teams have also expressed an interest in Pinamonti. That European competition may yet complicate negotiations. However, Pinamonti’s personal desire to test himself in England could tilt the balance in Brentford or West Ham’s favour.

His ambition, combined with his form in a difficult Sassuolo side, suggests a player ready for a new challenge. Whether it’s the tactical structure of Benham’s Brentford or the evolving identity of Potter’s West Ham, the Premier League could be the proving ground Pinamonti has long sought.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For West Ham fans, the interest in Pinamonti is encouraging, though it highlights just how thin the club’s attacking depth has become. With Antonio out of contract and Fullkrug still adapting to English football, adding a forward with Serie A experience could help bridge the gap. Fans will be wary, however, of how long West Ham take to act. Waiting too long in this market risks missing out.

Brentford supporters, on the other hand, will view Pinamonti as a practical if unglamorous addition. Should Mbeumo or Wissa leave, bringing in a proven European goal scorer like the Italian would ease concerns. That said, Thiago’s return to fitness and Hutchinson’s potential arrival suggest the Bees are planning for both now and the future. Supporters will hope the club can finalise deals swiftly and avoid the disruption of losing key players too late in the window.

With no club-to-club contact yet, fans of both sides will be watching closely to see who makes the first concrete move. Whether either can convince Sassuolo and Pinamonti remains the summer subplot to follow.
