Serie A striker puts future on hold for Barcelona call

Despite Barcelona seemingly distancing themselves from a move for him on several occasions, Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic continues to hold out for a move to the Catalan giants this summer. Vlahovic is out of contract this summer, and his departure from Juventus has been confirmed, after he failed to reach an agreement with the Bianconeri on a new deal.

Vlahovic arrived at Juventus in 2022 for €85.4m in a blockbuster deal from Fiorentina, but never quite hit the heights that were expected. During his 4.5 seasons at the Allianz Arena, he made a total of 168 appearances, scoring 68 times and giving 16 assists.

Dusan Vlahovic puts Besiktas talks on hold for Barcelona move

According to Sport, Vlahovic has frozen talks with Besiktas in hope of a move to Camp Nou. In recent days, he met with officials from the Turkish giants, and was offered a contract for the next three seasons to the tune of €9m per year. Vlahovic is keen to see whether a move to Barcelona could transpire if their other targets, most notably Julian Alvarez, do not arrive.

Barcelona have discarded Vlahovic for time being

While the Catalan giants have an appreciation for his qualities as a nine, he was told that they have other priorities this summer. They were also not keen to meet his salary demands of €8m net per year, a figure they feel is inflated.

Given Barcelona appear to have made little progress in signing a number nine to replace Robert Lewandowski, his stance is understandable. It has been some time now since Vlahovic was offered to Barcelona, and it is fairly clear that they do not feel he has what it takes to lead their line for the coming years. How long both Vlahovic and Barcelona will stand their ground on those positions remains to be seen.
