Serie A | Venezia 0-1 Torino: Coco cracks tough nut on the Laguna | OneFootball

Saul Coco scored his first Serie A goal to give impressive Torino a victory away to Venezia, as coach Paolo Vanoli beat his former club.

The Lagunari were still missing Gianluca Busio and Bjarki Bjarkason, but last season’s top scorer Joel Pohjanpalo returned after a month out and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia made his debut. Toro had drawn Milan and beaten Atalanta in a surprising start to the season, with Che Adams again partnering Duvan Zapata. Nikola Vlasic, Perr Schuurs and Gvidas Gineitis were still sidelined. It was a return to the Stadio Penzo for coach Paolo Vanoli, who took Venezia to promotion via the play-offs.

Nicolussi Caviglia forced two desperate saves from Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in quick succession, first his curler clawed out of the far top corner, then on the resulting corner a scorcher palmed away from under the crossbar.

Jesse Joronen was also called into action by Che Adams from 12 yards and was right behind a surprisingly central Ivan Ilic free header before pushing the Samuele Ricci strike round the near post.

Nicolussi Caviglia turned over from the edge of the box and Antonio Candela missed a big chance on the Gaetano Oristanio pull-back from the by-line, as he should’ve left it for Pohjanpalo.

Mikael Ellertsson hit the side-netting on the Candela assist, but it was Torino who finally broke the deadlock in the last few minutes of the match.

Ilic floated in a corner, it was flicked on by Adam Masina for the looping Saul Coco header into the far top corner of the net.

Christian Gytkjaer horribly scuffed a finish in stoppages that could’ve got Venezia level after springing the offside trap.
