Mario Pasalic and Mateo Retegui pounced to give Atalanta the 2-0 victory away to increasingly troubled Venezia.
The injury list just kept getting longer for La Dea, losing Sead Kolasinac, Odilon Kossounou, Rafael Toloi, Marco Brescianini, Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini, but at least Matteo Ruggeri and Berat Djimsiti were available again. The Lagunari missed only Bjarki Bjarkason and gave Filip Stankovic his debut in goal (the son of ex-Inter and Lazio man Dejan), but the mood was dire after four losses in the last five.
It took just seven minutes to break the deadlock, as an Atalanta corner bobbled around in the box until Mateo Retegui nodded it down for Mario Pasalic to sweep in on the volley from six yards.

Retegui then hit the side-netting from a tricky angle and Stankovic palmed a Charles De Ketelaere effort out of the top corner.
Gaetano Oristanio’s curler was just over, while Michael Svoboda risked an own goal intercepting the Ademola Lookman roll across for Retegui.
Marco Carnesecchi had to push the ferocious Antonio Zampano strike away from a difficult angle, while Lookman’s screamer smashed against the crossbar on 28 minutes and De Ketelaere skimmed the top corner with a first-time left-foot finish.
Retegui doubled Atalanta’s lead mere seconds after the restart, as he stole the ball from Antonio Candela and placed a delicate lob over Stankovic.
Alfred Duncan drilled just wide and Ederson stung Stankovic’s gloves, while Oristanio again fired over from close range.
Stankovic kept the scoreline down for Venezia by fingertipping the Lazar Samardzic effort over the bar.
Pasalic 7 (A), Retegui 46 (A)
