Serie A | Verona 1-2 Bologna: Hat-trick of victories for Rossoblu

Bologna continue their fine form with a third consecutive Serie A victory, as Jens Odgaard and a howler on the Nicolò Cambiaghi effort proved enough to beat 10-man Verona.

The hosts were missing Martin Frese, Suat Serdar and Abdou Harroui, knowing goals were a problem after scoring only one in their last four games. The Rossoblu were in sixth place and marching forward with just one defeat in the last 10 Serie A rounds, missing suspended Remo Freuler.

Odgaard volleyed off target and Verona had penalty appeals waved away for a coming together between Sam Beukema and Domagoj Bradaric.

Amin Sarr only found the side-netting after running onto the Bernede through ball, but Bologna took the lead with a moment of quality.

Davide Calabria cut inside from the right and his inspired slide-rule pass released Odgaard to fire into the top corner from a very tricky angle.

It should’ve been 2-0 going into the break, but Riccardo Orsolini failed to make the most of the Lautaro Valentini error on a bouncing ball and slipped, allowing Pawel Dawidowicz to catch up.

Lorenzo Montipò kept the scoreline down with fine reaction saves on Odgaard’s left-foot finish and Cambiaghi one-on-one, while Verona had the ball in the net only after Casper Tengstedt was caught offside from the Tomas Suslov assist.

Verona were reduced to 10 men on 70 minutes, as Valentini received his second yellow card of the match.

To make matters worse, Hellas conceded a truly avoidable goal, as the innocuous Cambiaghi effort from just inside the box squirmed horribly under goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò. It was a howler, but Cambiaghi’s first Serie A goal in 11 months.

Nonetheless, 10-man Verona did get back into the game moments later, when Daniel Mosquera nodded on a long ball and was ready to meet the Tengstedt return pass from five yards to bundle over the line.

Thijjs Dallinga should’ve finished it in stoppages, only to fire the angled drive wide from a very promising position.
