Charlton Athletic will be hoping to emerge as legitimate contenders for promotion in League One in the upcoming campaign.
The Addicks decided to cut ties with Johnnie Jackson following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season and have since handed over the reins to Ben Garner who led Swindon Town to the play-offs in League Two earlier this year.
Garner has already bolstered his squad by securing the services of four players this summer and is likely to add some more fresh faces to his team in the coming weeks.
Set to face Accrington Stanley on the opening day of the new term later this month, it will be intriguing to see who is given the nod to start for Charlton in this particular fixture.
Here, we have decided to take a look at the latest Charlton transfer headlines you might have missed…
Steven Sessegnon closing in on loan move
According to a report from The Athletic, Steven Sessegnon is closing on a temporary move to Charlton Athletic.
Sessegnon is set to sign a new deal at Fulham before joining Charlton on a season-long loan deal.
The right-back featured for Fulham’s Under-23 side during the first half of the previous campaign before being loaned out to Plymouth Argyle in January.
During his time at Home Park, Sessegnon made 10 appearances for the club in League One and averaged a WhoScored match rating of 6.37 at this level.
Barring a late twist, the defender will be given the chance to feature in the third-tier again by Charlton in the new term.
Chris Gunter seals AFC Wimbledon move after Charlton exit
Charlton opted to release a number of players in May.
One of the individuals who was not offered a new contract by the Addicks was defender Chris Gunter.
During his time at The Valley, Gunter made 58 appearances for Charlton in all competitions.
On the lookout for a new club, the Wales international managed to seal a move to League Two side AFC Wimbledon yesterday.
As confirmed by Wimbledon’s official website, Gunter will link up with former Charlton boss Jackson at The Cherry Red Records Stadium as he has signed a one-year contract at the club.
