It goes without saying that Barcelona must rethink their tactical approach, especially after losing further ground to Real Madrid in the La Liga title race.

Following their 1-2 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Catalan giants now trail their arch-rivals by five points, and with the November international break approaching, it is clear that several things need to change.

This period calls for serious self-reflection. Excuses related to injuries or fatigue can no longer be used as shields for underwhelming performances.

While Hansi Flick has had to cope with a growing list of absentees, Barcelona’s issues have also been tactical and psychological.

A lack of sharpness in attack, vulnerability in transitions, and an inconsistency in intensity have cost them crucial points.

Players are owning up

In a positive sign, some players appear to have recognised the gravity of the situation.

According to SPORT, several key members of the squad, namely, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Roony Bardghji, Wojciech Szczesny, Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, and Robert Lewandowski, all reported voluntarily to Ciutat Esportiva today, despite it being an official rest day.

Notably, the outlet mentions that the rest of the squad will resume full training tomorrow, continuing daily until Saturday, when they will hold their final session before facing Elche.

Flick will be hoping that the extra work put in by the players translates into sharper performances and a stronger team dynamic.

There is some positive news

Among those returning to action, Robert Lewandowski has already rejoined group training, which comes as a huge boost for Barcelona’s attacking options.

Meanwhile, Joan Garcia is also nearing the end of his recovery.

The goalkeeper, sidelined for the past four weeks, is expected to begin specific on-pitch work in the coming days as he completes the final phase of his rehabilitation.

Barcelona’s response in the next few weeks will be crucial. Flick’s men need not only results but also conviction, a reminder of the identity and intensity that once made them champions last season.
