Sevilla consider former Barcelona defender as replacement for departing World Cup winner

Sevilla are about to lose another heavyweight: Marcos Acuna. The full-back is already in Buenos Aires, as he prepares to sign a three-year contract with River Plate. Club officials are moving quickly to secure a replacement.

Los Nervionenses cannot afford to make a big buy, and one is not necessary anyway, as they already have the established Adria Pedrosa at left-back. A low/no-cost option is being sought, and according to Marca, one of the players best-placed to make the move to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan is Marcos Alonso.

Alonso is currently a free agent, having left Barcelona at the start of July. So far, he has received several lucrative offers in the hope of finding the perfect project, which would end up being Sevilla. The veteran defender would prioritise staying in Spain, and especially La Liga.

If Sevilla were to make a move for Alonso, the 33-year-old would need to accept a reduced salary. It’s a possibility, as he wasn’t a particularly high earner during his time at Barcelona either.
