Joselu Mato has re-emerged on Sevilla’s radar, but the conditions of his exit from Qatar are making a deal difficult and the club are already working on alternatives.

According to La Colina De Nervion, the two parties have held direct talks in recent days. Accounts differ on who initiated contact, with suggestions of more than 10 club enquiries and others saying the player offered himself. A fiscal issue tied to his time in Qatar is a major obstacle.

The 36-year-old is a free agent after leaving Al-Gharafa, having recorded 10 goals and two assists in 21 matches in Qatar. His name has lingered around Sevilla rumours for years and gathered pace again in January.

The club’s stance appears firm. Joselu has not been considered this summer and that has not changed, unless the terms of any deal shift. Recruitment continues on a centre forward for Luis García Plaza’s squad.

Elsewhere, targets are slipping away. Petar Ratkov is close to joining Levante UD on loan from SS Lazio, despite prioritising Sevilla, and a loan bid worth about one million euros has not progressed. Conrad Harder will join RC Strasbourg from RB Leipzig on a season-long loan without a purchase option.

George Ilenikhena, owned by Al-Ittihad, remains highly unlikely for Nervión. Sevilla still plan to bring in a striker before the window closes, regardless of departures, with the profile set as a young loanee, which means Joselu does not fit.
