Sevilla’s slide has accelerated, with Matías Almeyda’s position under urgent review and three candidates identified to replace him.
The defeat to Valencia CF has been treated as the turning point, and the board met on Sunday to act quickly, aiming to give any new coach time to work during the FIFA break. Cadena COPE reports that a decision could be made official within hours.
Sevilla are on the brink of relegation and Almeyda’s credit has run out. His start raised hopes, yet it proved short-lived. Across 32 matches this season he has 10 wins, 5 draws and 15 defeats.
Beyond results, the side looks rudderless. Against Valencia CF there was no reaction in the second half despite a home crowd, with decent spells never sustained. In a league as unforgiving as LaLiga, that fragility carries a cost.
Sevilla have sketched three clear profiles. Luis García Plaza is viewed as a steady hand used to pressure and fast returns. Diego Martínez brings deep LaLiga knowledge and a competitive edge suited to an emergency.
Manolo Jiménez connects with the club’s history, coupling an obvious emotional pull with experience of the environment. Almeyda’s dismissal appears a matter of time, yet choosing his successor is a high-stakes call. Changing coach offers no guarantees, but doing nothing may be even riskier.
